Coal Mine Dragon in Littleton is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars, based on 81 reviews!
We have dined in 3 times, and ordered take out once now so far from here, and have loved every thing we've tried! The bbq pork buns and steamed dumplings are OUTSTANDING!!! We also love the sweet n sour chicken, moo shu pork, szechuan beef (not overwhelming spicy- perfect!), chicken lo mein, and brown rice. Vegetables have always been fresh, and quality meat as well.
I miss this place personally, its a small restraunt but its cozy and good.
We used to go someplace closer to us but was recommended that we try Coal Mine Dragon. We've only ordered delivery twice but both times have been great! The veggies are fresh and crisp, not stringy and soggy like they've been simmering in sauce all day. The service is fast as well. I really have no complaints. Good fast Chinese.
The Sesame Chicken was SO good! Definitely not you're average take out Chinese restaurant. BBQ pork buns were super flavorful and the hot tea hit the spot! If you're in the area THIS is the place to eat some good food.
Love the food and staff is so nice!! Would highly recommend!
Best sesame chicken very friendly staff and clean
Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant! It's a very underrated hidden gem. There food speaks for themselves and makes up for any other short comings.
Best Chinese food in Denver. I spent 2 1/2 years on Okinawa so not an entirely uneducated opinion. My friend who spent 4+ yrs on Okinawa says it is the best chinese he has found between here and Colorado Springs. I have not found an entree I don't like and I have tried a lot of them!
I had wings, fried dumplings, spring rolls. Everything was hot and tasty.
We are visiting from Florida and we were at coal mine dragon all week. It wasn't just because of the absence of good Chinese food where we live, but Coal Mine Dragon is truly exceptional. Always fresh, always hot, always very fast. The portions are perfect and for lunch even includes a soup, spring roll, and crab Rangoon. We enjoyed the sesame chicken and beef, beef lo mein, and orange chicken. Not to be overlooked was the AMAZING pork bun appetizer. I love this place (:
All I had was beef on a skewer. I don't know how you can really screw that up. but they didn't. so, it was awesome. give the place a shot
Great Chinese Food. I have been going there since it was in Evergreen. #worththevisit
Excellent Chinese food, one of the best in metro Denver. We lived in Canada for many years and got spoiled on the outstanding quality of Chinese food there. Good Chinese food is impossible to find in Colorado, but this comes very close. It is fresh, and feels homey, a mom and pop restaurant. Everything we've tried has been excellent
Quiet, good food, quick and friendly. One of the better Chinese restaurants in the area.
Best Chinese in this area, in our opinion and have been here 4 years from Vegas (we know food!) Never any funky flavors, everything tastes clean and fresh and fast! Dine in or take out! Atmosphere is great.
Delicious and we will be back! The hot and sour soup was perfect and the jalapeno chicken was so good.
Best Chinese food you can get! The vegetarian sesame chicken is AMAZING! Highly recommended!
We have been here a few times and love it! The Szechwan Beef was delicious! They also offer Gluten-free which is great so my husband can eat here too! Just ask what dishes they can make Gluten-free. They also offer many vegetarian dishes including tofu.
I recently went with a large group for my Birthday and the food came out quickly. One of my friends accidentally took my meal thinking it was what he ordered - I would have just eaten it but they insisted on making me a new one. I like this restaurant because it is small and quiet (except for our large group of 10 that day!).
Best Chinese food I've ever had! Portions are big and can be shared if you wanted. Always our good to spot.
I went here with coworkers for lunch. They have a great staff and good lunch menu.
This is your proverbial "hole in the wall/mom and pop" restaurant. You never know what to expect, and the good news is I was pleasantly surprised. I walked in at the beginning of the Friday night rush, and they were already busy. I was told by an apparent young family member to sit anywhere, so I chose a booth and viewed their unusual menu--arranged by *style* of dish. I think you can find photos of it on this site.
While that was initially confusing, I knew I wanted something spicy with a lot of vegetables. I settled on Mongolian pork (which comes with red and green bell peppers and onions) and a side of steamed vegetables and white rice. I asked for hot tea, and the hot and spicy soup, to start. That totaled just over $21, which was not outrageous, but not exactly cheap (remember, they charge for the tea.)
The tea came quickly, and it was only after ordering that I noticed the masking tape on the wall of the booth with "we charge for tea" written on it by hand. That's something I think they should address better all around. The soup also came quickly, but wasn't very hot or remarkable, though I wouldn't say the tea or the soup was otherwise disappointing.
The Mongolian pork was nothing short of outstanding! I put each helping on a bed of steamed rice and extra steamed vegetables, and though I didn't intend to finish it all I did. I would give them five stars if not for a few negatives. Besides the soup not being very hot, I also seemed to receive the rice from the bottom of the cooker, so many of the grains were literally hard. Though it was busy, and I understand that, I was never asked how my food was, or if I needed any service, so I'd say they could improve their service. At this point, I'm giving them four stars because the main dish was so good!
The decor was hit and miss. I'd say it was fair except the walls in the entryway were embarrassingly unfinished with only flat white paint, scarred badly, and had no decor. Inside, it was pleasant, though not luxurious. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a "hole in the wall" with robust takeout business on a Friday night.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised, and I will return, though I do hope they read their reviews so they can correct the negatives.
I have to say the funny series of reviews by "Ellen" cracked me up! If she hates the place so much, why does she keep coming back?
Very good food, I’ve spent time in china and when I come here it feels like I’m back. Just spicy enough for Americans. Highly recommended
Best Chinese food in Littleton. I've tried 2 other places in Littleton and they were nowhere near as good as Coal Mine Dragon. The only negative thing is their prices are a bit higher than most Chinese food restaurants.
I work near by and Coal Mine Dragon is my favorite lunch stop. They are as fast or faster than most of the fast fresh in the area. Great food and service as always!
I love this place. Great food. Fast service. ????????????????
Food was great and plentiful. I ordered pickup and it was fresh and hot when I arrived. Service was good as well.
Great food! Quick delivery service.
We’ve always had delicious food here, and the vegetarian options are wonderful. The go-to place for Chinese food
Had the lunch special...chicken lomein...started off with a very tasty wonton soup then the main dish that came with an egg roll and fried cheese wonton..everything tasted good and I ate it all..????????..????
I love this place. It’s one of the best Chinese places we have found around here. The lunch specials are the best and very well priced. The place is always very clean, and the staff always friendly. We usually order for pick up because we often take advantage of their lunch menu and they don’t deliver until 4:00. They close in the middle of the day from 3-4 I think. I also believe they are closed all day Sunday. We have taken several people to eat there and they all enjoyed it.
Very limited seating especially for wheelchair user however most of the business is take out or delivery so it doesn't happen often that we have to wait. Some of the best Chinese food in the area!
I eat here all the time, for both lunch and dinner with family and friends. We are always delighted with the service and the quality of the food we seem to never be disappointed. We brought friends there and it became their favorite Chinese restaurant. The place is always clean and the food is always great tasting it's refreshing to find a good restaurant you feel comfortable going to and bringing your friends.
Love this spot. Always a good eat!
Best Chinese food in Littleton. I've tried 2 other places in Littleton and they were nowhere near as good as Coal Mine Dragon.
Came here for lunch and was impressed by how much you get for $8...crazy!! The Hunan Chicken was good, and would have been spicier if I ate the peppers, I suppose. Nice folks...will come back!
Best orange chicken we've had! Chicken egg Foo young was ok. Have had better at other places. Delicious steamed veggies. Yummy brown rice. Very friendly service. Fast service. Will definitely come back!
Finally my search is over. This is great Chinese take out! They use real vegetables in the fried rice, no frozen peas and carrots, and the food is full of flavor. They missed dipping sauces with my appetizers but we can overlook that since the food actually has flavor and they deliver. Whoo hoo.
Food is always excellent and the staff is always very quick with service and friendly
Friendly service. Great food. Really like the black pepper beef!
I came in here for a to go order with my boyfriend. The cashier was very nice and helpful and our food came out fast :) I wasn't expecting to get so much good quality food for that price haha. I was very impressed and will be coming back!
Our favorite Chinese restaurant. Owners are wonderful, friendly and accommodating and food is always great.
I wish I could try some other items as I am sure the are great. But.... all I ever order in Lemon Chicken. This in one of the only restaurants that doesn't overcook the Lemon Chicken or sweet and sour chicken. The have it down perfect. Large battered chicken cooked to perfection. Never tough or dried out. Try it!
Food is delicious! Lunch specials during the week make it an exceptional value. Lunch specials include choice of soup (egg drop, hot & sour, or wonton), an egg roll, a cream cheese rangoon, choice of rice (white, brown, or fried except when you order a noodle entree) and your choice of entree (many to choose from.)
Fast delivery. food isntbad but nothing extremely special. we have ordered from here a few times with no issues. The person who took our order was very helpful and nice!
My favorite Chinese restaurant on this side of town. I've read some of the recent reviews and I have to admit I usually get my food delivered or to-go. Sometimes the staff is a little loud but it is a family-owned restaurant. Everyone I've encountered here has been very nice. I left my wallet here once and I called them when I got home. They held on to it and refused any reward that I offered. Oh and the food is great. I would recommend the dumplings, lettuce wraps, moo-shu pork and sesame chicken.
Best in Denver. Low price but the food is amazing. Even the vegatarian options are awesome.
A nice clean Chinese restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
Food is TOP SHELF because they use excellent ingredients!
Service is excellent! Family run business with a warm personality, wait staff is attentive but unobtrusive.
My wife is Chinese, born and raised in Hong Kong, been in the states about 15 years now. We have been going to Coal Mine Dragon since early 2009.
Even though we moved from Littleton to Castle Rock (about 40 min south), we make it a point to swing in to the Coal Mine Dragon whenever our errands bring us to that side of town.
A few of our favorites:
1) Broccoli-Beef. They elevate this American-Chinese staple to a spectacular dish because the beef they use is top notch! If you order it expecting the typical delivery or buffet "Chinese food" you will be pleasantly surprised at the thick, juicy pieces of beef that elbow their way to the forefront amid a crowd of deep green, perfectly cooked broccoli clusters with just enough crunch to remind you how fresh the produce is!
2) Anything with shrimp in it is spectacular because they use succulent monster shrimp (which seems like a contradiction, but when you see them and taste them you will understand).
3) Roasted Duck. My wife says it is the best duck she has had outside of HK, if you have never had duck but are looking to expand your pallet this is an excellent option. The meat is moist, not gamey. The skin is crispy and the dipping sauce adds to what is an excellent morsel all by itself.
The premier quality of their dishes and the friendly environment has remained constant over the two-year span that we have frequented Coal Mine Dragon.
Vegetarians rejoice! Coal Mine Dragon Chinese Bistro has some super-delicious mock meats, so tasty I had to run home and Yelp about it. We headed over because we saw the great rating on Yelp. I was excited to see that they had a very extensive vegetarian selection, including mock chicken and beef. I expected them to be so-so, but wow! They were delicious. I had the vegetarian moo shu chicken and my husband had the vegetarian Szechuan beef. Both were fantastic. The flavor and texture were wonderful. (Will you eat it and think "wow, I didn't even know it wasn't beef!" -- no. Is it delicious and hearty and a great hearty texture and wonderful flavor -- yes.) Definitely the best vegetarian Chinese food I have found to date by a long shot! Yum!
The service was nice and polite (and I love that they boxed up my leftovers for me, always a plus for a restaurant to me). Food was a tiny bit slow coming out, but nothing excessive, and didn't detract from my experience. Decor is simple, pretty, and elegant. It is a fairly small restaurant (less than 10 tables, I think). When we got there at 5:15, there was only one other couple there. By the time we left, all the tables were full, and there were several people getting take-out and the delivery guys were bustling. And for good reason. My new favorite place!
Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in the Littleton area! Their dishes are always light and fresh and as close to authentic as you can get. Their black bean sauce dishes are wonderful and the seafood hotpot is excellent. I've ordered from them numerous times and have never had a bad dish. If you are looking for the best make sure to visit this place!
Best Chinese I've had in a long time! He was right, the orange is the best I've had!
I'm here at Coal Mine Dragon right now, with my little netbook connected to their wifi, just finishing up some of the best Mongolian Chicken I've ever had. I decided to give this place a try after reading the Yelp reviews, and am really glad I did. I will definitely be back, and soon.
Really everything was top notch, including the egg rolls, my standard appetizer at any Chinese restaurant, along with the Hot n' Sour soup. All excellent. The staff was fast and friendly.
Awesome Chinese food. Very light and tasty, no MSG used.
Highly recommend it.
Excellent Chinese for a suburban neighborhood restaurant. Even something simple like Trio Lo Mein is excellent. And the sauce they use with the pot stickers is awesome! Best Chinese is the area by far.
I am in town visiting family from San Diego and wanted some great vegan Chinese food. Holy effing faux meat Batman this place surpassed all expetations. They delivered and were fresh COME ON! My sister got the faux Sesame Chicken which was probably the best thing any of us got. I had the szechuan faux chicken with brown rice and all I can say is wow. Eat here!
We love Chinese food and my husband have been looking for a great place to go. We just moved to Littleton and we're still learning the area. Found Coal Mine Dragon on Yelp and decided to try it out. Great choice! The hot and sour soup was amazing and the seseame chicken was really good. I think we'll be coming back for sure!
#1 Go to Chinese Takout place! I'm not vegetarian but am perfectly happy eating vegetarian if the dish is flavorful and fresh. They offer a delicious mock chicken and mock beef substitute which is a nice change from tofu, tofu, tofu. My favorite vegetarian dishes are the Kung Pao "chicken" and Orange "chicken". I also like the hot and sour soup with cheese wantons. Makes a couple of meals for me. Also wonderfully quick 15 min wait! Always fresh. Won't be disappointed if you try this gem!
Dig this place. Best Chinese food within 20 minutes of Littleton - and even then, you'd have to go down Federal St. to beat it, and even THEN, there are probably only a couple places that can do that. I hated Denver's Chinese food until I found Coal Mine Dragon. Plus, they deliver. Everything we had outside of their wings (why can't Asian restaurants make good wings? It's the easiest dish in the ever!) was very good - tofu app was probably best. Cheap for the quality of food.
This is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. We always have great service (both dine-in and take-out/delivery). The food is always great and the atmosphere is nice. Bonus: a fish tank in the dining room that entertains our little ones while we are waiting for our food!
I'm vegan and gluten-free and Coal Mine Dragon can accommodate both. I love that they have brown rice, delicious tofu and meat substitute dishes. They deliver (I live off Mineral and they come all this way). A hit in my book.
My favorite Chinise restaurant on this side of town :) Combination Udon Soup is the best I ever head :D Everything I had a chance to try is between Great & Good :) & they have a Vegan menu ;)
Excellent shrimp tempura and beef and broccoli. Egg rolls are made with pastry wrap not regular crispy egg roll wrapper
Wonderful food, small intimate atmosphere but still comfortable for families with children. Easily competes with Pei Wei or PF Changs. It will become a regular place for us.
Best Chinese restaurant here in Denver area. Amazing prices with monstrous portions, and delicious, bomb!!!! Food.
I'm so glad I found CMD. It is very unassuming on the outside, but the food, ambience and service is terrific. I always stop by when I'm in town. Today I had the udon soup and loved it! Stop by. You will be glad you did.
Quick. Decent price. Quality food. Avoid confusion and order via phone. Speedy delivery. Not perfect but decent.
Chicken with snowpeas is 5 star yummy. Best I've ever had, in fact. Staff are very friendly. Restaurant is clean and ambiance is pleasant. I highly recommend it!
Staying in a hotel down the street from this place, and based on the great reviews on Yelp decided to give them a try for delivery. The person who took my order was polite and seemed to actually like their job, which is always a surprise when calling for delivery. They told me it might take 45 minutes because it was snowing quite heavily. Much to my surprise hot and delicious food was delivered to my hotel room within 25 minutes. Based on recommendations, I ordered the Beef w/Broccoli and it was fantastic. Other reviews are correct in that they clearly use top shelf ingredients. The beef was more tender and flavorful than I have had with this dish at other restaurants. If I was in town another night, I would try it again tomorrow. This place is a gem.
Killer Chinese! Best General Tsao chicken I've ever had. Great fast service!
I would recommend the food to anyone. We were referred here by a friend and it was great. Seems like this would be a take out place though before a sit down restaurant. We were greeted and told to sit where ever we wanted. Well considering every table was dirty with dishes on it that limited the choices pretty quickly. In fact every table stayed that way until someone walked in needing one and then until they closed for the rest. Waitress was very friendly but no attentive and seemed to forget things like the drinks you ordered until you or something else reminded her. I would definitely eat here again but next time take out it is.
Our favorite Chinese food place! Good sized portions, good quality food. Nice servers when you done in and delivery is always faster than promised. Have ordered a variety of dishes from here and all have been great. Sesame and Kung Pao chicken are my favorites! Little pricier and hate that they closed on Sundays.
Love the general Tsos chicken. The delivery is quite speedy always. Always enjoyed the food I got from here.
I always get general Chinese food from here like beef lo mein and vegetable tempura, great food and consistent. Happy they are my local Chinese joint!
I've had my ups and downs with this place. It depends who's cooking. If it's the owner's mother, I have to check my dish to make sure pieces of animal carcasses aren't "accidently" there. (I'm on a plant-based diet.) It's happened twice. But the owner has always compensated for the problems. Still. These have been horrifying experiences.
Since these incidents, quality control has improved considerably. I prefer it when the owner cooks my meal as he knows exactly what I want and how I want it. Call me spoiled but since I come here on average once a week, you better believe they need to treat me right.
The dish I always order is the General Tsao Tofu. It's super sweet but I just love it.
Nothing better. Sesame chicken and Crab-cheese wantons are especially amazing! I eat here weekly!
Be aware that the food isn't spicy-even when it has the pepper symbol next to it.
Ok look. The food is really good. Looks clean. But you have GOT to shut up your employees. Between owner/manager (?) Spewing his life story to a table for 35 minutes and the staff laughing like literal hyenas and yelling back and forth across a 20 foot room whilst laughing hysterically, it utterly ruins the atmosphere. Couldn't even get a refill on water because the staff was too busy dying of laughter for 45 minutes. I literally left with a migraine and my fiancee said "IF we ever do this again? Take out is the only option". They have plenty of vegan options, everything is great, but dammit, shut those people UP!!!
This place is pretty solid! Nice atmosphere, good food, & decent prices. They also have takeout. This place is definitely a solid four stars. I give it five because of their vegan-friendliness. As a vegan (yeah, I'm one of THOSE people) I have a heck of a time eating at restaurants. Usually, If I'm lucky, I have the option of getting a veggie burger & fries. Here, however, every dish has the option of being served with tofu AND they have an entire page of dishes served with fake meat (Tofurky skyle beef, chicken, etc.). They also offer brown rice. No luck with egg rolls, though :(
Consistently the highest quality Chinese food in the area
Delicious food. Reasonably priced. Very nice staff.
Yessssssssssss! Finally! Real Chinese food! I ordered tofu! Man..... I just sat down to eat & I got chicken! Still good though!
